How does nature in Wordsworth's poetry differ from nature in Byron's description of the Byronic hero?

Answers

Answer:

Wordsworth tends to see Nature as 'out there'; a presence that surrounds humans, and contributes to human life, but is different from humans. If you look at a typical Wordsworth poem (There was a boy, ye knew him well ye rocks) - Wordsworth talks about Nature as something that needs to be learned about and understood, Nature is different from us.

If you look at a Byron poem (The Isles of Greece is a good one) - Byron looks at Nature mainly for what it already means to Man. Wordsworth will look at a landscape and see the mountains, trees, valleys, and rivers as almost spiritual presences - Wordsworth wants to get to know Nature.

Byron will look at the same landscape and he will want to know who lives there, what are the villages? Are there any farms or mines, is there some history?

Wordsworth looks at Nature for what it is; Byron is forever asking what it means.

Wordsworth thinks that humans are part of Nature; Byron thinks that Nature is part of being human.

When you read a Byron poem, you'll see that Byron primarily considers Nature in terms of what it already represents to Man. When Wordsworth sees a landscape, he sees the mountains, trees, valleys, and rivers as nearly spiritual presences; he wants to know Nature.

Wordsworth's poetry and Byron's:

Nature, according to Wordsworth, is something that has to be taught about and understood since it is distinct from us.

When Byron sees the same area, he wants to know who lives there and where the communities are. Is there any history, such as farms or mines?

Wordsworth sees Nature for what it is, but Byron is always wondering what it means.

Humans, according to Wordsworth, are a part of Nature, while Nature, according to Byron, is a part of being human.

Read the excerpts from "The Royal House of Thebes" and "The Story of a Warrior Queen."

"We are women," she told her sister. "We must obey. We have no strength to defy the State." "Choose your own part," Antigone said. "I go to bury the brother I love." "You are not strong enough," Ismene cried. "Why, then when my strength fails," Antigone answered, "I will give up." She left her sister; Ismene dared not follow her.

–"The Royal House of Thebes"

Again and again the Romans were defeated, till it almost seemed as if the Britons really would succeed in driving them out of the country. Boadicea herself led the soldiers, encouraging them with her brave words. "It is better to die with honor than to live in slavery," she said. "I am a woman, but I would rather die than yield. Will you follow me, men?" and of course the men followed her gladly.

–"The Story of a Warrior Queen"

How are the themes presented in these two passages similar?

They both express the theme that women are as capable as men.
They both express the theme of loyalty to one's country.
They both express the theme that divine law comes above mortal law.
They both express the theme that family ties are stronger than political ones.

Answers

Answer:They both express the theme that women are as capable as men

Explanation: In the beginning paragraph of “The Royal House of Thebes” she says, “We are women, we must obey.” But her sister does not follow this rule. In “The Story of a Warrior Queen she says, “I am a woman, but I would rather die than yield.” And she does so as well

They both express the theme that women are as capable as men are the themes presented in these two passages similar. Hence, option A is correct.

What is the concept of the passages?

The word "defy" in the first passage clearly implies that Antigone is acting in a rebellious manner. Boadicea is "encouraging them with her courageous words" in the meantime. The second passage portrays her throughout as a warrior.

In these two passages, various archetypes are presented. Boadicea is depicted as a warrior, whereas Antigone is portrayed as a rebel, that is shown in the passage.

In "The Royal House of Thebes," despite her sister's pleadings, Antigona refuses to submit to the State. She rebels against the gender-specific expectations placed on her.

Thus, option A is correct.

Answers

Answer:

In “Technology: Using it Wisely,” the author claims that technology limits children’s brain development and that it negatively impacts the way people exercise.

To support the claim that technology limits children’s “healthy brain development,” the author cites evidence from “scientists and researchers” who state that technology “limits growth and creativity.” The author goes on to say that most computer games and forms of digital entertainment are not “intellectually challenging.” The author also implies that these types of games and entertainment could actually be harmful to childrens’ ability to think creatively.

To support the claim that technology negatively affects the way people exercise, the author provides details in the form of generalizations. For example, the author states that “many people” exercise indoors in gyms. The author goes on to state that people’s bodies are not being properly nourished because they aren’t spending enough time exercising outdoors. Additionally, the author states that a “walk in the woods” or an “open-air run” is vastly more effective than spending time “running on a treadmill.”

I believe the author’s credible evidence related to the first claim that technology limits “growth and creativity” in school-aged children. However, the author doesn’t include any credible evidence to prove that the additional details used to support that first claim are accurate. Personally, I have seen many computer-based activities and games that actually do help students learn new information and skills. The author’s second claim is also not supported by any data or credible evidence, so I find it hard to believe that working out in a gym offers significantly fewer benefits than walking or running outdoors. Therefore, based on the lack of evidence and credible details provided, I disagree with the author’s claims.

Explanation:

actual answer from PLATO

Answer:

Paragraph 1

Claim 1 Technology does not support healthy brain development in school-aged children.

Evidence and Details

Scientists and researchers think school-age children’s use of cellphones and tablets “limits the growth of creativity.”

Very few of the computer games and digital entertainment options that children use are “intellectually challenging.”

Commentary

The evidence about the effect of technology use on creativity is somewhat credible because it comes from science experts.

The detail that few computer games and digital entertainment options are “intellectually challenging” lacks support from a credible source, so it may not be a trustworthy fact.

Explicit and Implicit

Meanings

The author explicitly states the belief of experts that technology “limits the growth of creativity.”

By saying that “only a handful” of computer games and entertainment options are “intellectually challenging,” the author is implying there is almost no value in having children engage in these activities. This statement also implies that such activities could actually harm children’s ability to become creative thinkers.

Paragraph 2

Claim 2 Technology has had a negative impact on the way people exercise.

Evidence and Details

Many people work out in gyms, which are in enclosed spaces that are similar to their office work environments.

People are not getting enough fresh air, which is something our bodies need for “nourishment.”

A “walk in the woods” or an “open-air run” is much more “effective than running on a treadmill.”

Commentary The three details that the author uses to support the claim about technology and exercise are generalizations. They seem to be based on personal experience and background knowledge rather than facts and evidence from experts or other credible sources. Therefore, the author’s statements lack credibility.

Explicit and Implicit

Meanings The author explicitly states her or his beliefs about the need for outdoor exercise. The author implies that working out in a gym is an ineffective and “negative” way to nourish the body.

Answers

Answer:

3. Scarecrow.

2. The Wizard of Oz.

1. Toto.

Explanation:

Every relationship that Dorothy forms- both in the book and film- are important to her growth both as a character and a person in the real world. Try and put yourself in her shoes. You are living with your relatives when all of a sudden, a cyclone(or any natural event) whisks you away from them. How hard can that be? Forming new bonds and relationships can help to diminish some of that pain. I will explain why I think the bonds listed above are the most important:

1. Toto.

Toto is Dorothy's lovely companion throughout this entire tale. He sticks by her side, even as times get rough. This dog is just as humane as all of us combined, and he is one of the most important bonds that Dorothy will ever have.

2. The Wizard of Oz.

Even though his arc comes later than expected, this phony wizard is really nothing more than a sympathetic old man. He just wanted to feel accomplished, but he earned it through lies and shady practices. He is easy to understand, and even helps Dorothy return home. This is an influential bond that Dorothy has.

3. Scarecrow.

This man made of nothing but straw and more straw is one of the most humane protagonists to ever exist. His plight is easy to get: he wants to feel smart. Don't we all from time to time? His goal is simple: to go to the ruler of his land and ask for brains. Even though he is a bit naive, the Scarecrow man is much more intelligent than he appears. He is both important and influential to Dorothy.

Hopefully this helps you with your inquiry. I would advise reading the book to get your own opinion. Or watch the movie. It is a lovely adaptation.

Some studies show a connection between violence and Aunt Hester had not only disobeyed his orders in going out, but had been found in company with Lloyd's Ned; which circumstance, I found, from what he said while whipping her, was the chief offence. Had he been a man of pure morals himself, he might have been thought interested in protecting the innocence of my aunt; but those who knew him will not suspect him of any such virtue. Before he commenced whipping Aunt Hester, he took her into the kitchen, and stripped her from neck to waist, leaving her neck, shoulders, and back, entirely naked. He then told her to cross her hands, calling her at the same time a d----d b---h. After crossing her hands, he tied them with a strong rope, and led her to a stool under a large hook in the joist, put in for the purpose. He made her get upon the stool, and tied her hands to the hook. She now stood fair for his infernal purpose. Her arms were stretched up at their full length, so that she stood upon the ends of her toes. He then said to her, "Now, you d----d b---h, I'll learn you how to disobey my orders!" and after rolling up his sleeves, he commenced to lay on the heavy cowskin, and soon the warm, red blood (amid heart-rending shrieks from her, and horrid oaths from him) came dripping to the floor. I was so terrified and horror-stricken at the sight, that I hid myself in a closet, and dared not venture out till long after the bloody transaction was over. I expected it would be my turn next. It was all new to me. I had never seen any thing like it before. I had always lived with my grandmother on the outskirts of the plantation, where she was put to raise the children of the younger women. I had therefore been, until now, out of the way of the bloody scenes that often occurred on the plantation.
