How can gossip and community storytelling influence the way people perceive themselves
or a situation? Can gossip and community storytelling be both good and bad? Full explain

Answers

Answer:

Gossip is like rumors so they can be good or bad and help the community or hurt the community. So once someone started making gossips people will start to know like a good one is that (Made up) Marvel is making a new movie and it called Avengers Infinity war 3 (Not sponsored) then everyone will be happy about it. A bad one is that someone said there where a murder around town and most people would believe it and stay home or keep going outside and if it gonna keep spreading it going to make the neighborhood have a bad reputation so people will move out somewhere safer then that will hurt the community.

Hope this helps :)

Gossip and community storytelling can influence the way people perceive themselves because:

They can help form negative opinions about people

Gossip is the use of idle words to talk about another person with another person or group of people usually with negative connotations.

Community storytelling is the way a people in a community share stories about their history and other folktales among themselves.

With this in mind, we can see that these two factors can help to influence the way people perceive themselves because they can form negative opinions about people which would affect their relationship with such people.

short summary of the crucible

Answers

Answer:

In the Puritan town of Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, the town minister, Reverend Parris, discovers his daughter Betty, niece Abigail, and other girls dancing in the forest with his slave Tituba. Betty faints in fright at being discovered, and will not wake. Rumors of witchcraft spread through the town and a crowd gathers at Parris's house while Parris, nervous about his reputation, questions Abigail about what the girls were doing in the forest. Abigail says they were just dancing, though it soon comes out that Tituba was trying to conjure dead spirits.

Parris runs off to calm the crowd, and a local farmer named John Proctor winds up alone with Abigail. While Abigail was a servant in the Proctor household, she and Proctor had an affair. Abigail tells Proctor there was no witchcraft, and insists Proctor still loves her. Proctor, guilt-ridden over the affair, tells her it's over. As the crowd downstairs begins to sing a hymn, Betty starts screaming and Parris, Thomas Putnam, Ann Putnam, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey come running into the room. An argument about whether witchcraft led to Betty's condition soon transforms into an argument about other local political issues. Just then, Reverend Hale, a noted investigator of witchcraft, arrives, and Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey leave.

Under threat of punishment if she refuses to confess, Tituba breaks down and admits she communed with the devil. She begins to name other witches in the town. Abigail, seeing that she'll be punished unless she joins Tituba in naming names, leaps up and begins to name more witches. Betty wakes and joins in.

Eight days later, Proctor and his wife Elizabeth discuss the many people who have been charged with witchcraft by a court presided over by the deputy governor of the province. They learn from their servant Mary Warren, one of the girls accusing people in the town of witchcraft, that Elizabeth is herself accused. Elizabeth wants Proctor to expose Abigail as a fraud, but she suspects Proctor may still have feelings for the girl. As Proctor angrily denies it, Hale arrives to investigate the Proctors. He's soon followed by Giles Corey and Francis Nurse, whose wives have been accused of witchcraft and imprisoned. Moments later the authorities come and take away Elizabeth. Once they're alone, Proctor demands that Mary expose the other girls as frauds and promises to confront Abigail if he must.

Proctor brings Mary to court to expose the accusations as lies. The girls, led by Abigail, deny the charge. Proctor reveals his affair with Abigail to show that she's dishonest. To test Proctor's claim, Deputy Governor Danforth calls out Elizabeth, who Proctor says will never lie. But when asked if Proctor had an affair with Abigail, Elizabeth denies it to protect her husband's honor. Abigail and the other girls seize the moment to pretend Mary is attacking them with her spirit. Mary breaks under the strain and joins them, denouncing Proctor as an ally of the devil. Danforth orders Proctor's arrest. Hale, who now believes Proctor, denounces the actions of the court.

The witch trials cause anger and riots in nearby towns. A few days before Proctor and many others are scheduled to hang, Abigail steals money from Parris and vanishes. Parris and Hale try to get the people convicted of witchcraft to confess in order to save their lives, because Danforth refuses to stop or postpone the executions, saying it would not be fair to those already hanged. But Danforth does allow Elizabeth, who's pregnant and therefore safe from hanging, to talk to Proctor. After speaking with his wife, Proctor agrees to confess, but refuses to incriminate anyone other than himself. Once he signs his confession, he refuses to hand it over. His name is all he has left, he says, and he won't ruin it by signing lies. Danforth says that if Proctor is not honestly confessing, then he won't accept the confession. Proctor tears up the statement. Parris and Hale are horror-struck as Proctor goes to the gallows, but Elizabeth says he has gotten his "goodness" back.

select a word that is used in a primary connotative way

Answers

Answer:

C. crashed

Explanation:

Each word has two types of meaning:

Denotation - the word's literal, primary meaning;Connotation - the emotional or cultural association the word carries.  It's often described as either positive or negative.

Words dinner, invited, and turkey are used in their denotative, literal meaning. The only word that is used more figuratively is crashed. Primarily, to crash means to break or fall to pieces with noise or to collide, especially violently and noisily (when we talk about moving vehicles, objects, etc.). In the given context, to crash means to go somewhere you are not invited, which is not a positive concept. Thus, option C is correct.

A stone lost in time only to be found and lost again: The riddle of the Rosetta stone is one of great mystery. Many have tried to solve it and failed. The author of the Rosetta Stone, James cross Giblin wrote about this mystery. The author did a great job of staying on topic and on his thesis, he also made it inserting to read.

First the author James Cross Giblin stay on topic throughout the whole story. One example of this is: “Before the Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1799, no one knew how to read Egyptian hieroglyphic writing. Its meaning had been lost for almost 1400 years.” (Giblin The Mystery of the Rosetta Stone). This quote shows that even though she could have gone off to a side story he stayed on topic. One other example is: “Others stumbled on the correct definitions of a few hieroglyphs. No one knows exactly where the Greeks obtained this information.” (Giblin The Mystery of the Rosetta Stone)

Read the excerpt below from the short story "Rules of the Game" by Amy Tan and answer the question that follows. My mother placed my first trophy next to a new plastic chess set that the neighborhood Tao society had given to me. As she wiped each piece with a soft cloth, she said, "Next time win more, lose less." "Ma, it's not how many pieces you lose," I said. "Sometimes you need to lose pieces to get ahead." "Better to lose less, see if you really need." At the next tournament, I won again, but it was my mother who wore the triumphant grin. "Lost eight piece this time. Last time was eleven. What I tell you? Better off lose less!" I was annoyed, but I couldn't say anything. Describe the primary and secondary conflicts in the excerpt. Then, analyze what motivates each character to act the way they do in the excerpt.

Answers

Answer:

The primary conflict displayed in the given passage lies between Meimei and Lindo as the former is exasperated by the critiques of the latter and finds it utterly unreasonable. This misperception is the external conflict that Meimei undergoes and the secondary conflict lies 'within herself' as she deep down knows that being annoyed is not appropriate to wrap up an argument. If she wishes to learn this art of 'invisible strength' to conquer her aggression, she is supposed to look for a solution that would help. Just asking her mother to recede would not help in anyway. While Lindo seems prompted by a wish to witness Meimei succeeding. He feels that however Meimei is winning in some of the games but she must continue to upgrade and prove herself. His key idea behinf her critique is that she keeps improving instead being complacent.
