Which inference about Coleman’s death is best supported by the passage below (paragraphs 13-14)?

On April 30, 1926, Coleman was in Jacksonville, Fla., preparing to fly in an airshow there using a newly purchased Curtiss biplane, despite safety concerns from family and friends. With her mechanic and publicity agent, William Wills, flying the plane, Coleman was in the other seat scouting the terrain for a parachute jump the next day—with her seatbelt unfastened.

About 10 minutes into the flight, the plane began to spin rather than pull out of an intended dive. Coleman was thrown from the plane from a height of about 500 feet and died instantly upon impact. Unable to gain control, Wills also plummeted to the ground and died on impact. It was later discovered in the wreckage that a wrench had slid into the gearbox, causing it to jam.
Answer choices for the above question

A. Coleman died bravely while performing.

B. William Wills’s lack of flying experience caused Coleman’s death.

The Game of My Life

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I was alone on the basketball court with thousands of eyes staring at me. The only sounds I could hear were the bouncing of the basketball and my breathing. The final outcome of the game came down to this one moment. How did I, a young girl afraid of being the center of attention, come to this moment?

Before last fall, I had never tried out for anything. I sat in the back in every class trying to avoid eye contact with my teachers, never speaking to my peers. However, my friend Alexis convinced me to join the team with her.

Now I was the focus of the entire school’s attention. In the last few seconds of the game we were down by two points, and I took a wild shot at the buzzer. An audible gasp came from the crowd as the player guarding me slapped my arm and the ball bounced off the rim.

I stood on the free-throw line. Hot sweat trickled down the side of my face. The basketball in my hand grew heavier as I lined up my shot. I glanced at the crowd and could hear them shuffle in their seats. I could smell the buttery popcorn in the concession stands. Blocking all this out, I closed my eyes, trying to focus my mind on these three free-throw shots.

The ball flew through the air, hitting the back of the rim with a thud and went in.

Lucky shot, I thought. Come on, Jasmine. You’ve got this.

As the referee passed the ball back to me, I smacked my lips. My mouth felt as dry as if I had swallowed sand on the beach.

“Jasmine, it’s just you, the ball, and the basket,” yelled my coach.

I took another deep breath and let the ball fly from my hand. Swish. Straight through the net.

As the third and final shot soared through the air, the crowd rose to its feet. Their cheers seemed as loud as the sound of a jet engine. My teammates rushed the court, surrounding me in their excitement.

While I’m still not comfortable with all of the attention, I learned that my fears were holding me back from some amazing experiences.

The quote from the text that best supports the answer to Part A is "When you're behind bars, you believe that no one even knows that you exist anymore" (Chapter 13). So the correct option is D.

This quotation supports the response to Part A, which requests proof of the ways in which the experience of being imprisoned might impact one's sense of identity and worth. Wes Moore discusses in the text how feeling forgotten and invisible while incarcerated affected him.

He thought no one even knew he existed or gave a da'mn about him. This demonstrates how being imprisoned can negatively affect a person's sense of identity and self-worth. It bolsters the notion that incarceration can cause a person to feel alone and cut off from the outside world.

Overall, this quotation is a good illustration of how being imprisoned may change how someone sees themselves and their place in society. It serves to underline the notion that incarceration can significantly alter a person's identity. So the correct option is D.

Read the passage from Eleanor Roosevelt’s speech on the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Soviet proposal for deferring consideration of the Declaration to the 4th session of the Assembly requires no comment. An identical text was rejected in committee 3 by a vote of 6 in favor and 26 against. We are all agreed, I am sure, that the Declaration, which has been worked on with such great effort and devotion, and over such a long period of time, must be approved by this Assembly at this session.

Which choice best describes the purpose that this passage serves in the speech?

to persuade that the UDHR should be approved during a later Assembly session
to inform that the UDHR will be worked on more before being approved
to persuade that the approval of the UDHR should not be postponed further
to inform that approval of the UDHR will be stopped immediately

Answers

Answer:

Roosevelt’s goal in the passage is to persuade the general assembly to pass the UDHR at the fourth session.

to persuade the General Assembly to pass the UDHR during the current session Explanation:

the soviet proposal is made in order to defer the consideration of the declaration in the 4th session of the assembly. There must be approval by the assembly in the 4th session before the declaration of the rights is too late. There was rejection of the committee because of the different facts and finally it was passed in the 4th session.
