"Spring"
by Edna St. Vincent Millay

To what purpose, April, do you return again?
Beauty is not enough.
You can no longer quiet me with the redness
Of little leaves opening stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spikes of the crocus.
The smell of the earth is good.
It is apparent that there is no death
But what does that signify?
Not only underground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Life in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that yearly, down this hill,
April
Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.

How does Millay create a negative and empty mood for the reader?

O She uses words with unappealing sounds and connotations.
O She employs rhyme and rhythm to emphasize her message.
O She makes a direct statement about her hatred of April.
O She creates images that illustrate the beauty of spring.

Prompt: Which character in The Crucible stands out as an individual? How does the character's individuality impact the situation in Salem? Use at least two quotes from the text to help you explain your ideas. Your response should be at least one fully developed paragraph, however, you may write more if needed.

Answers

Answer:

Before I get into the nitty-gritty of how The Crucible themes are expressed, let's do a quick overview of what themes are and why they matter. A theme is a central topic that is addressed by a work of literature. Themes can be expressed in many different ways. In the case of a play like The Crucible, themes are revealed mainly through the dialogue of the characters. They're also revealed though events in the plot.

Themes tell us what the purpose of the work is. What is the writer attempting to convey to the viewer? The Crucible's themes have lent the play artistic longevity because they're more or less universal to the human experience across time. If you hope to write an awesome essay on The Crucible, you should have extensive knowledge of its themes. If you can show that you understand the themes of a work of literature, you've clearly mastered the material on a deeper level. In the next few sections, I'll take a look at a group of broad themes in The Crucible, including irony, hysteria, reputation, and power.

Safety regulations says that there should be at least 12m3 for each person in a room where people can sleep .A room is 12m long ,12m wide and 5m high .What is the maximum number of people who can sleep in it safely?

Answers

Answer: 60

Explanation:

For us to calculate the maximum number of people who can sleep in the room safely, we have to find calculate the room space which will be gotten as:

= length × width × height

= 12 × 12 × 5

= 720m

We then divide the value gotten by 12. This will be:

= 720 / 12

= 60

Therefore 60 people can sleep on the room safely.

Www

Answers

Hello. This question is about the article "food deserts"

Answer:

The response options you provided are inaccurate, but the author of the article develops the idea that some neighborhoods, for various reasons, do not have access, or have limited access to fresh, healthy food.

Explanation:

The unavailability of healthy and fresh food in some regions has created food deserts, where citizens' nutrition and eating habits are severely impaired. This promotes a low quality of life and poor nutrition, where individuals are at the mercy of an unsatisfactory diet and which does not provide all the important elements for a healthy life.

The words to fill the blank to describe the way in which the author advances the idea of some neighborhoods having restricted choices in food items would be:

- Obtain

- Nearby

- Convenient

The word 'obtain' in the first blank implies that 'possessing or keeping hold of' healthy food items are very rare in places having restricted food items. The next blank would need 'nearby' to denote the scarcity of supermarkets in such region which lead to limited availability of food. The last blank suggests that these have been the prime cause of people finding it 'easy' to get processed foods as the last choice.

Thus, obtain, nearby, and convenient are the correct answers.

instead of asking the Hales for money, Ethan: (ethan frome)

Answers

Answer:

Instead of asking the Hales for money, Ethan Frome turns back and returns home, setting aside the plans to run away with Mattie.

Explanation:

Edith Wharton's novel "Ethan Frome," tells the story of Ethan Frome and his struggle with his sick wife Zeena and his love for Mattie, his wife's cousin. Struggling to maintain what life is for him, the story delves into the concepts of what society expects of a person despite it being contrary to what one really wants.

Ethan wanted to run away with Mattie for he loves her. And so, deciding to ask for an advance to the Hales for the lumber, he went out to intercept Andrew Hale's wagon only to find Mrs. Hale. She told him that her husband is at home so Ethan went in that direction. His plan was to leave the farm and mill for Zeena and acquire the money for his and Mattie's life. But while walking towards the Hales' residence, his conscience took the better part of him. And so, instead of asking the Hales for money, he turned back and walked towards home without the money.

We have not evolved in relation to racism, on the contrary, society, led by whites, encourages a system where blacks never have a voice and are always the victims.

What is global warming?

Global warming is the long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system, primarily due to the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

These gases trap heat and prevent it from escaping back into space, causing the Earth's temperature to rise.  This rise in temperature can lead to a range of impacts on the environment.

Steady surface temperature increases were noted between the 1970’s and 90’s due to which the concern over global cooling replaced with a concern over global warming.  Thus, the ideal selection is option B.

What was Captain Canot’s POV on slavery? With evidence from book. 15 points to Brainliest.

Answers

Answer:

It is the year 1826, 30 years after the American Revolution boldly stated that all men are created equal, but this first-hand account of Theodore Canot, an Italian adventurer paints a much darker picture of the times. Brantz Mayer’s 1854 work, “Captain Canot; Twenty Years of an African Slaver” vividly describes his friend’s grizzly profession; providing a historical document unmatched in detail and accuracy. Captain Canot becomes notorious in the Americas and West Africa as a ferocious slave trader who acquired slaves through both captures and as plunder from other vessels. He represented a new age of the slave trade, a post-revolution day when slavery and race had becomes so deeply intertwined. This primary document provides insight into the slave trade after the American Revolution, a business rooted in the beliefs of racial inferiority more than they need for labor.

The memoir provides an inside look into the cruel practice of slave trading, which continued on much longer than one might think. Almost a century after Thomas Jefferson inked that timeless phrase in the Declaration of Independence, hypocrisy combined with expanding demand for slave labor on plantations in the South contributed to the continuation of the Atlantic slave trade. Even after the Emancipation Proclamation, in America, the trading in human beings continued nearby. Cuba and Brazil, for example, did not abolish slavery until 1886, and 1888, respectively, and the illegal slave trade was present right up until the turn of the 20th century (1). The desire for profit often outweighed any moral dilemmas associated with trafficking men and women. This was certainly true in the case of Captain Canot, a man who had lived many years in Baltimore. The idea that Africans were racially inferior and therefore “sub-human” legitimized the practice in the eyes of many Americans. While the antislavery movement gained steam in some northern areas, the belief that blackness and slavery are one in the same held in the South. Slavery was no longer about labor owed to another person, no longer something one can buy out of, but simply being black meant you were a slave for life.

With this belief system, Canot had no trouble capturing, abusing, and selling Africans, even branding them “with pieces of silver wire or small irons fashioned into initials heated just hot enough to blister without burning the skin”(2). The brutal treatment continues as the slaves are boarded onto the ship, “Officer, whip in hand, range the slaves in place, those on the right side of the vessel facing forward and lying in each other’s lap while those on the left are similarly stowed with their faces towards the stern” (2).  While packing these proud people into the ship like sardines, they arranged them in a particular way because this was “considered preferable for the action of the heart” (2). Can't and his crew simply thought of Africans as cargo, something to be delivered and kept alive, rather than human beings.

The idea of Africans being sub-human was not new. It had developed through hundreds of years of slavery. Both Europeans and Africans were involved in the development of this idea, as slavery had existed on the continent long before Europeans had set foot there. Mayer asserts that “slavery and the careers of men like Canot must be the fruit of Africa’s own fatal flaws,” demonstrating his belief that Africans themselves were the main culprits in the continuation of the slave trade. Mayer asserts that Africa is a continent “unstirred by progress… full of the barbarism that blood and tradition have handed down from the beginning” (2). Basically, while European slave traders and American plantation owners participated in treating people like property, the state of Africa itself was the main cause of the spread of slavery.

However they originated, the racist beliefs that Africans are sub-human and therefore property have marked our country’s history. These ideas precipitated racial tensions that have persisted to some degree even in modern America. The story of Theodore Canot is a powerful look into the evolution of racism. It is unique in that it both graphically details the cruelty and brutality of the slave trade, and provides insight into how these men could have possibly justified their horrific actions.
