EXPLAIN WERE THE CLAUSES ARE!!!

Answers

Answer:

2-dependent clause; 1-independent clause; conjunctions are: however, although; both of them are declarative sentences.

Explanation:

2-A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb. A dependent clause cannot be a sentence. They do not express complete thoughts, and thus cannot function as sentences. They are usually marked by dependent marker words. It is a word that is added to the beginning of an independent clause that makes it into a dependent clause. Marker Word (because, after, before, since, in order to, although, though, whenever, wherever, whether, while, even though, even if, etc.)

1-An independent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb. An independent clause is a sentence. Independent clauses are clauses that express a complete thought. They can function as sentences. These are clauses that can function on their own. They do not need to be joined to other clauses, because they contain all the information required to be a complete sentence.

Conjunctions are linking or joining words that connect other words and phrases together.

A declarative sentence is the most basic type of sentence. Its purpose is to relay information, and it is punctuated with a period. For example:

The boy walked home.

I love honey.

He wants to eat cookies, but he doesn't know how to make them.

Read the following article on Gertrude Elion. Then, read the summary that follows. You will notice that the summary is incorrectly written. In this lesson, you learned six rules for writing an effective summary. Using this information, make three specific suggestions that would improve this ineffective summary.

Important note: Do NOT write a summary. You will write three suggestions for improving this summary. Your suggestions must be based on the six rules of effective summaries that you learned in the lesson.

Complete article from Encyclopedia Britannica

U.S. pharmacologist (one who studies drug interactions) Gertrude B. Elion received the Nobel prize for medicine in 1988 along with George H. Hitchings and Sir James W. Black. The three were awarded the prize for their development of drugs used to treat several major diseases.

Gertrude Belle Elion was born on Jan. 23, 1918, in New York City. She graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a degree in biochemistry in 1937. Unable to obtain a graduate research position because she was a woman, she took a series of jobs, including lab assistant, chemistry and physics teacher in New York City high schools, and research chemist. During this time she also took classes at New York University, where she earned a master's degree in 1941. Because she could not devote herself to full-time studies, Elion never received a doctorate.

In 1944 Elion joined the Burroughs Wellcome Laboratories (now part of GlaxoSmithKline (a company that makes prescription medicines)). There she was first the assistant and then the colleague of Hitchings, with whom she worked for the next four decades. Elion and Hitchings developed an array (variety) of new drugs that were effective against leukemia, autoimmune disorders, urinary-tract infections, gout, malaria, and viral herpes. Their success was due primarily to their innovative (characterized by new or unique) research methods. Rather than using the trial-and-error approach used by previous pharmacologists, Elion and Hitchings examined the difference between the biochemistry of normal human cells and that of cancer cells, bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens (disease-causing agents). They used this information to create drugs that could target a particular pathogen without harming the human host's normal cells. Their methods enabled them to eliminate much of the guesswork and wasted effort typical in previous drug research.

Although Elion officially retired in 1983, she helped oversee the development of azidothymidine (AZT), the first drug used in the treatment of AIDS. In 1991 she was awarded a National Medal of Science and was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. She died on Feb. 21, 1999, in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Finding Your Everest
Many climbers take exception to the publicity surrounding Team Jordan. Everest
climber Todd Burleson summed it up by saying, “He’s got his whole life to climb
Everest. Being the youngest boy to climb is a fashionable, celebrity-oriented sort of
thing. But it’s not about the mountains. It’s like trying to get your PhD at ten.” Paul
Romero claims that he is fully aware of the risks. There is a fine line between
encouraging Jordan and pushing him too far, he says. He talked about the point where
Jordan might have “reached his maximum mentally, physically, and where the risk has
become too high.” He said, “Jordan has just not even come close to that point yet.”
QUESTION:
2. Is the evidence given by Todd Burleson sufficient to support his opinion that Jordan and his family are just publicity seekers? Explain your answer, being sure to cite evidence, particularly from the section that discusses Burleson (begins "Many climbers...").

Read the excerpt from White Fang.

The four Indians laughed more loudly, while even the man who had been bitten began to laugh. They surrounded [White Fang] and laughed at him, while he wailed out his terror and his hurt. In the midst of it, he heard something. The Indians heard it, too. But the cub knew what it was, and with a last, long wail that had in it more of triumph than grief, he ceased his noise and waited for the coming of his mother, of his ferocious and indomitable mother who fought and killed all things and was never afraid. She was snarling as she ran. She had heard the cry of her cub and was dashing to save him.

Read this excerpt from The Great Fire.

Several minutes passed before Schaffer looked up from what he was doing and saw flames leaping wildly into the black sky. The light was from a different fire after all; he'd been fooled because this new blaze was almost directly behind the still-flickering remnants of the Saturday October 7 fire.

He studied the flames, trying to determine their exact location. This wasn't easy because of the distance and tall buildings between him and the flames. In addition, the moonless sky was made even murkier by the swirling, smoky haze. Schaffer signaled down the speaking tube and had his assistant strike Box 342. This sent engines rumbling through the streets — to a location almost a mile away from the O'Learys' barn.

What caused Schaffer to instruct his assistant to strike Box 342, accidentally sending firefighters to the wrong place?

the leaping flames in the sky

Think about the different types of storytelling methods you have learned about in this unit: diary writing, memoir writing, fiction narratives, and nonfiction narratives. Based on your knowledge of these types of writing, which method do you believe leads to the best stories? Once you have chosen a method, explain why you believe this method results in the best stories. Does the point of view in the method help make it more engaging or memorable? Does the structure of the type of writing make a big difference to the storytelling? Think of the specific elements of the type of writing to support your argument.

Can you give me at least 7 sentences?

Answers

Answer:

I believe that diary writing is a very impactful way of writing. It lets you get up close and personal with whoever has written the diary, and gives you a first person p.o.v! It's almost like having a personal conversation with whoever wrote it. Because I have a well understanding of how a certain person feels about a certain topic, it does make it memorable. I personally enjoy understanding how a protagonist feels about certain situations. The p.o.v certainly does make it tons more interesting as well. You could either feel like you're listening to the person who wrote, or you ARE the person who wrote.

Explanation:

i don't really know any context, but i hope this helps!

Answer:

I, personally, love non-fiction narratives. This method leads to the best storyteling because it is so creative and can include anything at all. Non-fiction writers are not bound by time, space, or reality in any sense. This methodology results in the best stories because there is so much more freedom and people like to escape reality. The point of view can be in first, second, third person omniscient, or third person limited. Generally, the structure of a non-fiction story can make a big difference in whether or not it is remarkable. For example, if it is longer it will be less interesting.

Irony is the term for "the opposite of what is meant". Examples of irony is like:

"No... you don't say". This is a dramatic irony, which means the opposite, essentially, "yes".

The other choices:

Hyperbole is exaggeration, or making something seem more than it really is. For example, "This homework is harder than building a missile".

Pun is a joke, typically using a word or fact that has more than one meaning, and using it out of context.

Metaphor is a comparison without using the words "like" or "as". For example: " You are the sunshine to my life ".
