There will come soft rains: determine the authors central idea (main) idea and cite evidence from the story to support your answer

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

down below

Explanation:

As a science-fiction author who concerned himself with philosophical and moral ideas, Ray Bradbury presents two significant themes in his short story "There Will Come Soft Rains":  the central irony that humans are harmed rather than saved by their own technology, and the underlying truth that Nature will prevail over both humanity and technology.

Humans are destroyed by their own technology

While the family lives a leisurely life with automated stoves, diswashers, tiny robot mice as housekeepers, voice-clocks, garden sprinklers, automated garage doors and cars, etc., the family, ironically, is annihilated by another form of technology: the nuclear explosion, "one titanic instant" that leaves the family as mere silhouettes against the wall of the house.

The house was an altar with ten thousand attendants, big, small , servicing, attending in choirs. But the gods had gone away, and the ritual of the religion continued senselessly, uselessly.

Nature prevails over both human life and technology

Using Sara Teasdale's poem as a metaphor for the idea that Nature will conquer all that is artificial as well as human forces, Bradbury utilizes the fire to destroy the house's technology that works at a "psychopathic rate." Yet, after this futuristic "Armageddon," the final paragraph presages Nature's ability to restore as well as to prevail: "Dawn showed faintly in the east."

Which option best describes the order Susan B. Anthony uses to present her ideas in ""On Women’s Right to Vote""?

The order Susan B. Anthony uses to present her ideas in On Women’s Right to Vote is: 1.Establishing the importance of the issue: Anthony begins her speech by asserting that the right to vote is essential to women's equality and freedom.

She argues that women are just as capable as men of making informed decisions about government, and that they deserve to have a say in the laws that govern their lives.

2. Providing evidence to support her claims: Anthony supports her claims with evidence from the Constitution, legal precedent, and historical examples. She cites the Declaration of Independence, which states that "all men are created equal," and the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees equal protection under the law to all citizens.

3.Refuting opposing arguments: Anthony addresses and refutes the most common arguments against women's suffrage. She argues that women are not too emotional to vote, that they are not too busy to vote, and that they are not too ignorant to vote. She also argues that women's suffrage would not lead to chaos or anarchy.

4. Calling for action: Anthony concludes her speech by calling for action. She urges her audience to join the fight for women's suffrage, and she promises that they will eventually win.

In short, Susan B. Anthony presents her ideas in a logical and persuasive way. She begins by establishing the importance of the issue, then defines the issue, provides evidence to support her claims, refutes opposing arguments, and calls for action. This order helps her to make her case in a clear and concise way.

Summer Program

“It’s a perfect beach day,” I thought on my way home from school. Good beach days were common in southern Florida, but every once in a while there was a day that made a trip to the beach a must. Little did I know, this particular day at the beach would change my summer and my life forever.

The beach was crowded with the usual groups of regulars and tourists. Off in the distance, though, I noticed a large gathering of people. Just then, Roger, a friend of my family and a police officer, came over.

I pointed to the crowd. “What’s up with them?”

“They’re looking at the sea turtle nests,” said Roger. “We posted signs last summer listing some rules for the area. Though the signs might not be enough. Just the other day we found a nest that had been disturbed—probably by onlookers. The director at the conservancy doesn’t think any hatchlings will make it out of that nest.”

“That’s awful,” I said.

“It’s actually been problem for a long time. They need all the help they can get to protect the turtles. You know, I think the Sea Turtle Conservancy has an internship program…”

Roger didn’t have to say another word. The next day, I asked my mom for permission. A week after that, I was hired as an intern; I would start working at the conservancy on the first day of summer vacation.

In my first days at the conservancy, I learned a lot about sea turtles, like their amazing instincts and adaptation—that a green sea turtle could hold its breath for as long as five hours, and could slow its heart rate to 10 beats per minute to conserve oxygen.

But I also learned that they were vulnerable. It was not only the tourists on the beaches that were threatening the survival of the sea turtles. The turtles were getting caught in the nets dropped by fishing boats. Another major threat was the bright lights of the waterfront. I learned that when baby sea turtles hatch, they are naturally attracted to the light of the horizon. Since the area near the beach had become built up over the years, the lights of hotels and restaurants sometimes caused the hatchlings to move in the wrong direction. Unable to find the ocean and the food they needed to stay alive, they would die on the beach.

That summer, I worked with willing fisherman to track migration patterns. This helped us develop better conservation plans. I also worked to alert businesses on the waterfront of the dangers that their bright lights posed to the hatchlings. I even worked with other interns to erect a wooden fence around the nesting site to keep visitors at a safe distance.

I had no idea that one day and one moment would lead me to learn so much; I also never thought that I could make a difference. But, with a little knowledge and a lot of work, we were able to do just that and ensure that the sea turtle hatchlings would be safe for generations to come.

Why does the narrator most likely choose to write about this experience?
