Answers

Answer 1
The Classical Periods of China, Rome, Greece, and India spanned different times and locations, but they share some similarities and differences in their political, social, cultural, and economic systems.
Answer 2

Similarities:

Each of the four civilizations was an agrarian society that depended on agriculture to survive.

The ruling class was at the pinnacle of a hierarchical social structure that also included a middle class and peasants at the bottom.

To run its affairs, every civilization created a different type of government, ranging from monarchs to republics.

Each of these civilizations placed a high value on religion, which involved the worship of several gods and goddesses.

Mathematics, literature, and the arts saw considerable breakthroughs in all four civilizations.

Differences:

China and India were geographically separated while Greece and Rome shared a Mediterranean culture.

Although Rome and Greece relied on city-states, China built a centralized administration.

While China and India's influence was primarily restricted to Asia, Greece, and Rome had a profound impact on Western thinking and culture.

The other civilizations did not have the tight social hierarchy that the caste system in India did.

Conclusion: While the social, political, and cultural systems of Classical Period China, Rome, Greece, and India had some things in common, they also differed significantly from one another, reflecting the particular problems and conditions that each civilization encountered.

Answers

The correct answer is corruption and peasant unrest. The Qing dynasty was weakened by pressure from the West as well as by peasant discontent and corruption.

The Qing Empire encountered many obstacles to its authority throughout the Nineteenth Century, including a number of foreign incursions into Chinese territory. The two Opium Wars against Western countries led by Great Britain culminated in the loss of Hong Kong, the compulsion to open "treaty ports" for international trade, and significant foreign "concessions" in significant cities granted extraterritorial sovereignty. Imperial China was compelled to cede authority over further lands as a result of its defeat in the Sino-Japanese War (1894–1895), ceding Taiwan and portions of Manchuria in addition to losing its suzerainty over Korea. The Russo-Japanese War (1904-05) significantly undermined Qing control while firmly establishing Japanese claims to the Northeast. Increasing imperialist demands (from both Japan and the United West.

A developing nationalism that sparked revolutionary ideals was fueled by resentment of the West, irritation with the foreign Manchu Government represented by the Qing court, and the desire to see a united China with a less regional viewpoint.

Evaluate the Consequences of the end of the county unit system and reapointment

Answers

The end of the county unit system and the adoption of reapportionment had significant consequences for political representation in the United States. Here are some of the consequences:

Greater representation for urban areas: Under the county unit system, rural counties had a disproportionate amount of political power compared to urban areas. Reapportionment, which allocated representation based on population, gave more weight to urban areas and their interests.

More competitive elections: The county unit system allowed for candidates to win elections with a small number of votes if they won the majority of counties, leading to a lack of competition in many elections. Reapportionment encouraged more competitive elections, as candidates needed to appeal to a broader range of voters to win.

Greater diversity in representation: Because reapportionment is based on population, it allowed for greater representation of minority groups who had previously been underrepresented due to the county unit system. This resulted in more diverse legislatures and a more diverse set of political leaders.

Shift in political power: The end of the county unit system and the adoption of reapportionment led to a shift in political power from rural to urban areas. This shift was reflected in changes to political priorities and policies, with more emphasis placed on urban issues such as infrastructure, education, and public transportation.

Overall, the end of the county unit system and the adoption of reapportionment had significant consequences for political representation and the distribution of political power in the United States. It helped to address issues of inequality and underrepresentation, and led to a more diverse and competitive political landscape.

The Open Door Policy and the Roosevelt Corollary were both foreign policy initiatives of the United States, but they were developed and implemented under different presidents and in different contexts.

The Open Door Policy, first proposed by the United States in 1899 and formalized in 1900, was designed to promote equal access to trade in China among all foreign powers. The United States sought to prevent European powers from dividing up China into exclusive spheres of influence and excluding American businesses from the Chinese market.

The Open Door Policy called for all foreign powers to respect Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to refrain from imposing discriminatory trade practices. While the policy was largely symbolic and did not have a significant impact on trade relations with China, it did help to establish the United States as a major player in international affairs.

The Roosevelt Corollary, announced by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904, was an extension of the Monroe Doctrine and asserted the right of the United States to intervene in the affairs of Latin American nations to prevent European intervention.

What features of life characterized industrial societies as of Big Era Seven’s end? What elements had to be present to qualify a society as “industrial?” If you lived in 1900, would you have preferred to live in a big industrial city or in a village in the countryside? What might have been the advantages and disadvantages of living in one or the other?

Answers

By the end of Big Era Seven, which spanned from 1750 to 1900, industrial societies were characterized by the following features:

Mass production: Large quantities of goods were produced in factories, resulting in the mass distribution of goods.

Urbanization: People moved from rural areas to cities in search of work in factories.

Division of labor: Work became more specialized, with workers performing a specific task in a larger production process.

Technological innovation: There were significant advancements in technology, including steam engines and electricity, which transformed the way people lived and worked.

Interconnectedness: The world became more interconnected through trade and the spread of technology, which led to increased economic growth.

To qualify as an industrial society, a country would need to have a high level of industrialization, characterized by the features listed above. Industrialization typically involved a shift from an agricultural-based economy to a manufacturing-based economy, where factories and machines played a central role in production.

If living in 1900, the decision to live in a big industrial city or in a village in the countryside would depend on personal preferences and circumstances. Some advantages of living in a big industrial city may have included access to more job opportunities, higher wages, and access to cultural amenities such as theaters and museums. However, living conditions in industrial cities could also be harsh, with overcrowding, pollution, and poor sanitation leading to health problems. On the other hand, living in a village in the countryside may have offered a simpler way of life with cleaner air, closer proximity to nature, and a stronger sense of community. However, job opportunities may have been limited and wages lower than in industrial cities.

In summary, the features of industrial societies as of Big Era Seven’s end were mass production, urbanization, division of labor, technological innovation, and interconnectedness. To qualify as an industrial society, a country would need to have a high level of industrialization. Living in an industrial city or in a village in the countryside had advantages and disadvantages that depended on personal preferences and circumstances.

Answer:

Both sides began stockpiling nuclear weapons.

Americans feared the growing power of the Soviet Union and worried that communism might spread.

What were the causes of the Cold War?

The Marshall Plan.

The Soviet Union held a sizable portion of Eastern Europe on the eve of Germany's capitulation, and the Western Allies took a sizable portion of the west. Both the west and the east were unable to agree on how to divide Europe.

As a consequence, this is what happened at the moment. Parts of the old German territory were given to Poland and the Soviet Union, and Germany was split into four zones of occupation. Due to their betrayal at the Yalta Conference and subsequent Soviet takeover, Poland played a significant role in the early Cold War. (a historical enemy of Poland). One of American President Franklin D. Roosevelt's final decisions was the contentious Treaty of Yalta. Roosevelt justified his actions by pointing out that Poland was occupied by the Soviet Union. The major victory for the west in the meeting was the decision to conduct free elections in Poland after the war. But this pledge would not be fulfilled.

Harry Truman, F.D.R.'s vice president, succeeded him as president shortly after F.D.R. passed away naturally. However, Stalin and the Soviet control that had been created at Yalta were unpopular with Truman. Truman and Churchill both opposed the creation of the Soviet proxy state in Poland. After all, Churchill had hosted the Polish administration in exile. Numerous British officials protested the Yalta choices and the deportation of Polish citizens, which led to a crisis in the British administration. (many of whom would be executed back in Poland). However, it was already too late to change anything at this time. At this time, the Pacific War was still raging.

There was even more contention over the division of Europe, particularly in Germany and how they were to be handled, at the following significant conference in Potsdam (the first of Truman's significant talks with Stalin). At this point, Truman also told Stalin about the atomic device, a brand-new weapon. Two of these atomic weapons would be detonated on Hiroshima and Nagisaki just days after the meeting, and the war would end shortly after with the Japanese capitulation.

Relations between the West and the East were once more strained as a result. Stalin was indignant that the Soviet Union had no sway over continental Japan. After all, they had attacked Manchuria and Korea in accordance with their agreement. (which to their credit, had contributed greatly to the Japanese surrender). Stalin ultimately succeeded in annexing the Kuril Islands and the remainder of Sakhalin, which are still a part of Russia today.

As a result of American concerns that the Soviet Union would seize control of the entire Korean peninsula, an arrangement was made to divide Korea at the 38th Parallel. Despite the fact that this was initially done with the goal of creating a single Korean state, growing unrest elsewhere made this split irreversible.

Marshall Plan

Back in Europe, we have what ultimately cemented the Cold War into place — the Marshall Plan. The plan was a replacement for the original plan on the treatment of Germany called the Morgenthau Plan. The Morgenthau Plan essentially meant to turn Germany into a non-industrial agrarian state. All of the industries were to be dismantled, and it is likely that millions would’ve starved. However, this idea was quickly thrown out in the west, and only partially adopted in the east through the dismantling of industries and infrastructure as reparations.

In 1946, Churchill made his famous “Iron Curtain” speech, which only served to further cement antagonism between the Allies and the Soviet Union. In 1947, President Harry Truman adopted the “Truman Doctrine.”

The Truman Doctrine was the basis for the position of the United States against communism for the rest of the century. Greece was in the middle of a Soviet-sponsored Civil War. The Truman Doctrine allocated 400 million dollars towards aiding the Greek royalists against the communists after Britain had exited the conflict in 1947. The new foreign policy of the United States was known as “containment.”
