If an atom has a diameter of 4 x 10^-8 cm and it’s nucleus has a diameter of 8 x 10^-13cm, find the ratio of the diameter of the nucleus to the diameter of the atom.

Answers

The ratio of the diameter of the nucleus to the diameter of the atom is   [tex]2 \times 10^{-5}[/tex] .

What is a ratio?

A ratio is a mathematical relationship between two or more numbers that shows how much one number is in relation to the other.

As per the given data:

Diameter of an atom = [tex]4 \times 10^{-8}[/tex] cm

Diameter of the nucleus = [tex]8 \times 10^{-13}[/tex] cm

To find the ratio of the diameter of the nucleus to the diameter of the atom:

Ratio = (diameter of the nucleus) / (diameter of the atom)

Ratio = [tex]\frac{8 \times 10^{-13}}{4 \times 10^{-8}}[/tex]

[tex]= 2 \times 10^{-13 + 8}\\ = 2 \times 10^{-5}\\[/tex]

What is an equation of the line that passes through the points ( 2 , 8 ) (2,8) and ( − 8 , − 7 ) (−8,−7)?

Answers

Therefore , the solution of the given problem of linear equation comes out to be y= (3/2)x + 5 .

Define linear equation.

The equation y=mx+b is the basis of a linear regression model. B is the slope, and m is the y-intercept. The aforementioned sentence is repeatedly alluded to as a "math problem with two variables," despite the fact that y and y are distinct parts. In bivariate linear equations, there are only two variables. The application regions for linear equations have no definitive solutions.

Here,

We must first determine the slope of the line before using the point-slope form of the equation of a line to determine the equation of the line that goes through two points.

The angle of the line that connects the coordinates (2, 8) and (8, 7) is:

=> slope = (−7 − 8) / (−8 − 2)

=> slope = −15 / −10

=> slope = 3/2

When we express the equation of a line in the point-slope format, where (x1, y1) is one of the line's points and m is its slope, we get the following result:

=> y − y1 = m(x − x1)

By selecting the line's origin (2, 8) and substituting the slope m = 3/2, we obtain:

=> y − 8 = (3/2)(x − 2)

The equation y = mx + b is transformed into the slope-intercept form by condensing and reordering the variables.

=> y = (3/2)x + 5

Consequently, y = (3/2)x + 5 represents the equation of the line going through the points (2, 8) and (8, 7) respectively.

Given the linear function f(x) = −4x + 8, what is the value of x if f(x) = 24?

x = 104
x = −4
x = −8
x = −88

Answers

Answer:

The value of x = -4

Step-by-step explanation:

The given linear function is f(x) = -4x+8

We have to find the x corresponding to f(x) = 24

For our convenience, let f(x) = y

Then y = -4x + 8

This equation implies y in terms of x.

Isolating x to one side of the equation, we get,

x = (y - 8)/-4 = (8-y)/4

This equation gives x in terms of y.

So when f(x) = y = 24,

x = (8-24)/4

⇒ x = -4

Answers

With a scaling ratio of 5:2, the larger cylinder's volume is (C) 70m³.

What is the scale factor?

A scale factor is used when a shape is enlarged and each side is multiplied by the same quantity.

This number represents the scaling factor. Map scale factors are used to show distances between locations accurately.

The new shape created by scaling the original shape is twice as big when the scale factor is 2.

Thus, calculate the larger cylinder's volume as follows:

x/5 = 28/2

2x = 28*5

2x = 140

x = 70m³

Therefore, with a scaling ratio of 5:2, the larger cylinder's volume is (C) 70m³.

Answers

Eric made the wrong ratio of the sides of the triangle. As corresponding sides of both triangles are in proportion to each other. So, the proportion will be x/12=9/5. x equal to 21.6.

Triangles with the same shape but different sizes are said to be similar triangles. Squares with any side length and all equilateral triangles are examples of related objects. In other words, if two triangles are similar, their corresponding sides are proportionately equal and their corresponding angles are congruent. If the corresponding sides and angles of two triangles are proportionate, then the triangles are similar. As a result, using another triangle, we may determine the dimensions of one triangle.

So, the right ratio of the sides of the triangle is x/12=9/5

12 * 9 / 5 =x

108/5 = x

21.6 = x

Therefore, x is equal to 21.6

A swimming pool is draining at a constant rate. The amount of water in gallons left in the pool after X minutes is represented by the expression shown.

25,000-30x

What does 30 represent in this context?

Answers

So, 30 reflects the amount of water that is being removed from the swimming pool per minute in gallons.

How variables figure out an equation?

In the provided formula, 25,000 - 30x, x is the amount of time in minutes and 30 is the pace in gallons per minute at which the pool is draining.

The expression is a linear equation of the form y = mx + b, where x is the length of time that has passed and y is the amount of water that is still in the pool.

The slope (m) of the equation in this instance is -30, which means that the pool's water level is dropping at a rate of 30 gallons per minute.

The expression's value decreases as more time passes because the value of x rises. As a result of the water draining out of the pool at a constant rate of 30 gallons per minute, the pool's volume is dropping linearly over time.

On a standardized science test, the seniors at a high school have a mean score of 425 with a standard deviation of 80. What is the probability that a random sample of 50 seniors has a mean score of at most 415?

Answers

The probability that a random sample of 50 seniors has a mean score of at most 415 is given as follows:

0.1894 = 18.94%.

How to obtain probabilities using the normal distribution?

The z-score of a measure X of a variable that has mean symbolized by [tex]\mu[/tex] and standard deviation symbolized by [tex]\sigma[/tex] is obtained by the rule presented as follows:

[tex]Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}[/tex]

The z-score represents how many standard deviations the measure X is above or below the mean of the distribution, depending if the obtained z-score is positive or negative.Using the z-score table, the p-value associated with the calculated z-score is found, and it represents the percentile of the measure X in the distribution.By the Central Limit Theorem, the sampling distribution of sample means of size n has standard deviation [tex]s = \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}[/tex].

The parameters are given as follows:

[tex]\mu = 425, \sigma = 80, n = 50, s = \frac{80}{\sqrt{50}} = 11.31[/tex]

The probability that they scored at most 415 is the p-value of Z when X = 415, hence:

[tex]Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}[/tex]

By the Central Limit Theorem:

[tex]Z = \frac{X - \mu}{s}[/tex]

Z = (415 - 425)/11.31

Z = -0.88

Z = -0.88 has a p-value of 0.1894.

Sadie is planning to go paddleboarding this weekend, but wants to know the water temperature at the lake so she can wear the correct gear. The lake temperature is reported to be 10.5 °C today. After a few sunny days, it should be 1.5 °C warmer this weekend.
what will the water temperature be this weekend in F°?

Answers

Answer:

To convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit, we can use the formula F = (C × 1.8) + 32.

First, we need to convert 10.5 °C to Fahrenheit:

F = (10.5 × 1.8) + 32

F = 18.9 + 32

F = 50.9 °F

Then, we can add the 1.5 °C increase in temperature:

New C temperature = 10.5 + 1.5 = 12 °C

And convert that to Fahrenheit using the same formula:

F = (12 × 1.8) + 32

F = 21.6 + 32

F = 54.6 °F

Therefore, the water temperature this weekend in F° will be approximately 54.6 °F.

Such environmental fluctuations cause random fluctuations in natural selection, affecting the predictability of evolution. But despite long-standing theoretical interest in population genetics in stochastic environments, there is a dearth of empirical estimation of underlying parameters of this theory. More importantly, it is still an open question whether evolution in fluctuating environments can be predicted indirectly using simpler measures, which combine environmental time series with population estimates in constant environments. Here we address these questions by using an automated experimental evolution approach. We used a liquid-handling robot to expose over a hundred lines of the micro-alga Dunaliella salina to randomly fluctuating salinity over a continuous range, with controlled mean, variance, and autocorrelation. We then tracked the frequencies of two competing strains through amplicon sequencing of nuclear and choloroplastic barcode sequences. We show that the magnitude of environmental fluctuations (determined by their variance), but also their predictability (determined by their autocorrelation), had large impacts on the average selection coefficient. The variance in frequency change, which quantifies randomness in population genetics, was substantially higher in a fluctuating environment. The reaction norm of selection coefficients against constant salinity yielded accurate predictions for the mean selection coefficient in a fluctuating environment. This selection reaction norm was in turn well predicted by environmental tolerance curves, with population growth rate against salinity. However, both the selection reaction norm and tolerance curves underestimated the variance in selection caused by random environmental fluctuations. Overall, our results provide exceptional insights into the prospects for understanding and predicting genetic evolution in randomly fluctuating environments. Author summary: Being able to predict evolution under natural selection is important for many applied fields of biology, ranging from agriculture to medicine or conservation. However, this endeavor is complicated by factors that inherently limit our ability to predict the future, such as random fluctuations in the environment. Population genetic theory indicates that probabilistic predictions can still be made in this context, but the extent to which this holds empirically, and whether these predictions can be based on simple measurements, are still open questions. Making progress on answering these questions can be achieved by capitalizing on experiments where the environment is precisely controlled over many generations. Here, we used a pipetting robot to generate random time series of salinities with controlled patterns of fluctuations, which we imposed on a microalga, Dunaliella salina. Tracking the frequencies of two genotypes in a mixture by sequencing a short barcode sequence, we were able to show how patterns of fluctuating selection relate to the fluctuating environment. Interestingly, parts of these responses, but not all, could be predicted by simpler measurements in constant environments, allowing precise characterization the limits and prospects for predicting evolution in fluctuating environments.
