Can someone peer review this essay about Stephen King please? I need to extend the amount of information I have in here but cant find much more that would relate to the topic. Thank you!
Stephen King has been one of the biggest inspirations for authors of horror for many decades. While his early life proved difficult, he was able to become one of the most successful authors to date. To many, his works were incredibly inspiring.
King was born in Portland Maine, September of 1947. He is the second son of Donald and Mellie Ruth Pillsbury King; the first son and Stephen`s brother was David. His parents divorced when he was still an infant, so the two brothers were raised by Mellie alone, moving from Maine to Indiana, then Connecticut before returning Maine. Despite his rough childhood, King was active in school studies regarding politics and literature. He wrote for the school newspaper, participated in school politics, and fought for a movement against the Vietnam War.
He continued on this path, which provided endless knowledge about writing. King`s brother David, who owned a newspaper company, was his first step towards being an author. There, he wrote the paper`s articles, and was often inspired by horror stories or comic sections and reviews. His first story, titled “I was a Teenage Grave Robber”, was published in that very paper. ‘The Long Walk’ was his soon-to-follow first novel, which had been ultimately shunned. He later wrote ‘The Glass Floor’, of which earned him enough money to push his writing career a little further. He continued writing, creating both works that were rejected and works that became popular; a struggle most authors experience at some point. King moved onto creating and publishing the novels we know better today. Just like most authors, the first book isn`t always a hit; in fact it was horribly rejected. The little money he made from its publication went into his next book, “The Glass Floor”. He continued to barely make enough money to keep writing but was determined to continue.
One of King`s biggest works, “IT”, was inspired by the town of Maine in which he lived. He wanted to capture the horror of those small, quiet towns where the houses are far apart, and they have little security. Most movies in rural-urban type settings somehow have maybe two or three police officers covering the entire map. After moving to Colorado, he wrote his next masterpiece, “The Shining”. While visiting the Stanley Hotel, King experienced nightmares and other small experiences that inspired the story. He often used real life experiences and twisted them into a fearfully attractive tale. The Shining became one of his best-sellers within 4 decades of publishing, with about half a million copies sold. It`s movie was made 3 years after release. The next most popular is titled Cassie, which stars a telekinetic highschooler who seeks revenge on her classmates. The story is especially attractive to those who have experienced bullying and/or considered revenge.
Because of his masterful storytelling and his intricate worlds filled with thoughtful lessons, he is known world-wide as one of the best horror and fantasy writers in recent history. King`s works will live in infamy for all authors in ages to come.
