In the book Mother and son
1. To what does the Mother compare life?
Answer:A stairway is a means of getting somewhere or, literally, of moving up in the world. So, the mother could be comparing her life here, metaphorically, to a splintered and dilapidated stairway to suggest that her path in life has been a difficult one. The "tacks" and "splinters" and the ripped up "boards" could represent the obstacles that she has had to overcome. The description of the stairway also implies poverty, especially when compounded with the word "Bare" two lines later, so perhaps the mother's life has been difficult because she has been poor, and the obstacles that she has had to overcome are the obstacles that poverty...

Hello I'm writing a book and I would like your opinion on it! This is just the beginning few pages.
“Gale! Is Gale here today students?” I ran into class, the rain was pouring and I was drenched. Every speckle was so very small, delicate, and clear. I always admired the rain, to me it was a sign but I had not known of what. I sat down on my chair, as the floors got wet and I left a trail of water behind me. I did not realize that I had made the floors wet and that my jacket was cold and saturated. As I take my jacket off and put it in the cubby’s that were placed by Arnold Peter, he gives me a gaze, then grabs me by the collar of my jacket that I had already taken half off and slams me to the floor.
I looked up to see his face and then I met his eyes, they looked cold and pitiful. “Gale! How dare you come to my class late and then pick a fight. You have the nerve.” It was Mrs. Walter, she sent me to the principal's office and told me to see her during lunch to mop the wet floor. The principal threatened me with his offer of calling my parents, I didn’t know what to say to him, so I just stood there blank. He then called me a disgrace and told me to be ashamed of myself.
During lunch I sit alone and the other kids giggle away, I even hear them talk about me. I didn’t have anything to eat and my parents didn’t pay for my lunch. I guess I didn’t mind starving, I was already used to these things and it has always been like this for the past 15 years of my life. I am interrupted from my daydreaming when Mrs. Walter takes me to her class and I start mopping the wet floor. She told me that I needed to fix my attitude and how my grades were suffering. It wasn’t even my fault that the other kids liked to tease me. But then again, I was used to it. As the wet floors got dry, I noticed something.
The water looked like it was shining, every speckle, glimmered. The lunch bell rings and I rush to my next class, I was hungry and wet from the morning rain so I didn’t care much about the fascination the water brought to me. The last bell rings and I run home. The rain poured but I found comfort in it. I looked down at the bakery that was owned by Emma Walterson, my neighbor.
She is a 45 year old woman who always cared about me and asked questions. Sometimes she even took me to her house and let me play in her sons consoles. I don’t think he liked me that much. I don’t look where I am going and get lost in my thoughts. Suddenly, the rain pours harder.
Kids were running as their parents pulled up an umbrella. Some had friends that shared their umbrellas with them. Some didn’t have one but they enjoyed the company they got from their friends. Then in a flash there was no one there. I guess they had all rushed home and I was just standing there.
I started to run, faster and faster but it was like time had frozen. I look around to see the rain, it wasn’t falling the trees in the distant were put, not moving. As I turn my head around trying to understand what was happening, the ground starts to shake. I tried pinching myself thinking I was having a bad dream. It wasn’t a dream. Three oddly looking shapes appear in front of me. About 6 feet tall, rectangular and lustrous, it wasn’t alive and it wasn’t moving. It was an object and as I looked closer each of them had a symbol.
The first symbol was a droplet of water. The second was a swirl, like the wind. And the third was a hand that held up a flower. I touch each symbol. The first symbol felt like real water as if I was standing there feeling water with my hands.
The second symbol, the snowflake felt like it was ice which was no surprise. The third symbol, I couldn’t feel. It was just the atmosphere. I then have a urge to fall into a slumber. I stumbled upon and lay down on to the ground. My long sky black hair fell in front of my eyes and my skin became pale. My bright blue eyes closed.
That moment I was alone, tried, and starving. No one was there to help me, to carry me, to give me a hand, to lend a shoulder that I could lean on. I was alone, scared, and I didn’t know where I was and what was happening to me. I wished for a new start to my so-called life.

Summarize Chapter 1 of The Outsiders
Answer
Ponyboy walks out of the theater and gets jumped by Socs driving around. They bring a blade close to him, offering a "haircut", and his two brothers, the older Darry, who cares for the brothers and Sodapop, who's popular and works as a mechanic, come to his rescue. The boy's parents died in a car crash.
Answer:
The Outsiders is narrated by the main character, Ponyboy Curtis. The story is placed in Oklahoma during the 1960s.
In the first chapter, Ponyboy introduces himself and gives a brief history of his family. He also describes the relationships between his gang members, and the relationships within his own family. Ponyboy's parents were killed in an automobile accident, leaving him and his two brothers on their own.
Ponyboy is the youngest at 14, Sodapop is 16, and Darry is 20. The authorities allow the three brothers to stay together as long as they "behave." Ponyboy resents Darry and the total control that he attempts to wield over his life; he views their relationship as adversarial and looks to Sodapop for understanding and love.
The brothers consider their gang members — Steve Randle, Two-Bit Mathews, Dallas Winston, and Johnny Cade — to be family. All of the members come from dysfunctional homes and need the gang relationship as a substitute for what is missing in their own families.
As Ponyboy walks home alone after going to a movie, he realizes the inherent danger of doing so. He explains to the reader that he is a greaser, a term "used to class all us boys on the East Side," which is the poor side of town. Greasers are known for their long, greased hair. Walking home alone is dangerous because the rival gang, the Socs, could easily attack him. The Socs, short for Socials, are "the jet set, the West-side rich kids," who are from upper-middle-class families. Ponyboy explains that the gangs are "just small bunches of friends who stick together, and the warfare is between the social classes."
As if foreshadowing Ponyboy's own poor decision to walk alone, a carload of four Socs arrives, and one pulls a knife on him. As he attempts to fend off his attackers, Ponyboy hears the pounding of footsteps and the attack turns into an all-out fight as his gang arrives to rescue him from the Socs' attack. Ponyboy's two brothers, Darry and Sodapop, along with their four other gang members, chase the Socs away; Ponyboy escapes with cuts and bruises.

Based on the details in the text "President Outlines Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts" infer the rhetorical context of the speech: *
Answer:
: I've just received an update from Secretary Chertoff and other Cabinet Secretaries involved on the latest developments in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. As we flew here today, I also asked the pilot to fly over the Gulf Coast region so I could see firsthand the scope and magnitude of the devastation.
President George W. Bush stands with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld; Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao and Mike Leavitt, Secretary of Health and Human Services, as he speaks to the media from the Rose Garden of the White House regarding the devastation along the Gulf Coast caused by Hurricane Katrina. White House photo by Paul MorseThe vast majority of New Orleans, Louisiana is under water. Tens of thousands of homes and businesses are beyond repair. A lot of the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been completely destroyed. Mobile is flooded. We are dealing with one of the worst natural disasters in our nation's history.
And that's why I've called the Cabinet together. The people in the affected regions expect the federal government to work with the state government and local government with an effective response. I have directed Secretary of Homeland Security Mike Chertoff to chair a Cabinet-level task force to coordinate all our assistance from Washington. FEMA Director Mike Brown is in charge of all federal response and recovery efforts in the field. I've instructed them to work closely with state and local officials, as well as with the private sector, to ensure that we're helping, not hindering, recovery efforts. This recovery will take a long time. This recovery will take years.
Our efforts are now focused on three priorities: Our first priority is to save lives. We're assisting local officials in New Orleans in evacuating any remaining citizens from the affected area. I want to thank the state of Texas, and particularly Harris County and the city of Houston and officials with the Houston Astrodome, for providing shelter to those citizens who found refuge in the Super Dome in Louisiana. Buses are on the way to take those people from New Orleans to Houston.
FEMA has deployed more than 50 disaster medical assistance teams from all across the country to help the affected -- to help those in the affected areas. FEMA has deployed more than 25 urban search and rescue teams with more than a thousand personnel to help save as many lives as possible. The United States Coast Guard is conducting search and rescue missions. They're working alongside local officials, local assets. The Coast Guard has rescued nearly 2,000 people to date.
The Department of Defense is deploying major assets to the region. These include the USS Bataan to conduct search and rescue missions; eight swift water rescue teams; the Iwo Jima Amphibious Readiness Group to help with disaster response equipment; and the hospital ship USNS Comfort to help provide medical care.
Thank you

What is rhetorical?Rhetorical is the art of persuasion through communication. It is a form of discourse that appeals to people’s emotions and logic to motivate or inform. The word rhetoric comes from the Latin rhetorica, which comes from the Greek rhetorikos, meaning “oratory.
In Ancient Greece, oration, or public speaking, was the primary use of rhetoric, but today, there are many written examples of rhetoric. Rhetoric is important because it is the use of language to persuade others, resolve conflict, and reach a particular audience. Whether you’re giving a political speech, arguing in court, writing an academic essay, or pitching a new product or idea, knowing the basics of rhetoric can help you get your point across.

Answer:
1.) The theory of plate tectonics states that the Earth's solid outer crust, the lithosphere, is separated into plates that move over the asthenosphere, the molten upper portion of the mantle. Oceanic and continental plates come together, spread apart, and interact at boundaries all over the planet.
2.) Convergent boundaries -- where crust is destroyed as one plate dives under another. Transform boundaries -- where crust is neither produced nor destroyed as the plates slide horizontally past each other.
3.) At an ocean-ocean convergent boundary, one of the plates (oceanic crust and lithospheric mantle) is pushed, or subducted, under the other (Figure 4.6. 1). Often it is the older and colder plate that is denser and subducts beneath the younger and warmer plate.
4.) When oceanic crust converges with continental crust, the denser oceanic plate plunges beneath the continental plate. This process, called subduction, occurs at the oceanic trenches. The entire region is known as a subduction zone. Subduction zones have a lot of intense earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
5.) When two continental plates converge, they smash together and create mountains. The amazing Himalaya Mountains are the result of this type of convergent plate boundary. The Appalachian Mountains resulted from ancient convergence when Pangaea came together.
6.)Divergent boundaries -- where new crust is generated as the plates pull away from each other. Convergent boundaries -- where crust is destroyed as one plate dives under another. Transform boundaries -- where crust is neither produced nor destroyed as the plates slide horizontally past each other.
7.) The oceanic lithosphere is formed at an oceanic ridge, while the lithosphere is subducted back into the asthenosphere at ocean trenches. ... A process previously proposed to contribute to plate motion and the formation of new oceanic crust at mid-ocean ridges is the "mantle conveyor" due to deep convection
